As a summer staff member at Forest Glen Spring, I was given a multitude of different jobs. One day I would be cleaning every building on camp property, and the next I would belay guests up the rock wall.
A summer staffer is tasked with leading activities, housekeeping, light maintenance, lifeguarding, and general grounds keeping.
There are only a few requirements to becoming a summer staffer at Forest Glen. You must be able to pass a background check, have a personal relationship with God, CPR certified, and a pleasant friendly temperament to interact with the guests.
Summer Staffers are paid $175 per week with room and board provided. Also summer staffers are provided an opportunity to learn and network with industry professionals in the Camping Industry.
Throughout this Summer, I have learned a lot of new skills as well as how the Retreat Camping Industry operates. Throughout the Summer, my co-workers and I tirelessly worked to replace/refurbish every board on our dock. A lot of hard work went into it, but it taught us some manual labor skills. Also we worked to cover the top of our zip line tower to shade and protect the facilitators and participants from the elements. Along with those skills, I learned the financial aspects of running a Retreat Camp.
